One of several discouraging times in my life was when I was laid off from a state job that I had worked for over 18 years. It was my dream job. This job was created just for me. It combined both my medical and counseling expertise. I worked as a Registered Nurse and a Primary Therapist. I had plans to retire from that job. It all came crumbling down.

My experience with grief up close and personal came with the death of my best friend of 29 years who died unexpectedly and suddenly. We had a connection that has not been duplicated. I watched her go from being healthy, to having seizures, in a coma, and death in a matter of 3 weeks. It shook me to my core.

I have also been acquainted with loneliness. When I thought it could not get any worse, it did. I went through a separation with my husband. Beyond what I could ever imagine, it got even worse than that. Six months later, I went through a divorce from a man I had known for over 38 years. Not only was I discouraged, I was grieving and lonely. I did not survive but I thrived.

I am now an advocate for helping women, leaders, and their families overcome discouragement, grief, and loneliness through a program called S.T.E.P. which is an acronym for Strengthening The Entire Person. I develop individualized strategies for the mind, body, and spirit, God’s way, so they can have a sense of peace, feel valued, and appreciated.
